Those who seek to work with minors need to fulfill the child protection requirements established by the Archdiocese of Washington. These include:
- Go to archdiocesan website (www.adw.org) to register online to be in Virtus system.
- Download a background form from the archdiocesan website. Return completed form to Faith Formation office. The original will be sent to archdiocese and a copy will remain in Faith Formation office.
- Make appointment to be finger-printed at pastoral center. The appointment can be made online or by phone. The Faith Formation office will provide a form for you to take with you to be finger-printed.
- Register online through the archdiocesan website to take a Virtus class. Classes are held throughout the year.
- Read the child protection policy which is on the archdiocesan website. Print and complete the acknowledgement page indicating that you have read the policy. Return the original form to the Faith Formation office. The original will be sent to the archdiocese and a copy will remain in the parish.
- Periodically, catechists will have continuing education in the form of short articles on the Virtus website. You need to check www.virtus.org (catechist tab) to see if you have any outstanding articles.
